1 month old!!

Our little boy is a month old!  It did not go this fast when I was pregnant...  He has gained a pound and we can definitely see more rolls and chubs!

He's a good little baby and he already sleeps about 7 hours a night (not in a row mind you, but usually he'll give me a 5 hour stretch:)  He loves going outside!  Except now that it is so hot! It is already in the high 80's here!  We just melt when we go outside...

David also loves baths:) He was instantly calm the second we put him in the water!  and he likes getting his hair washed, I think that's his favorite part.

He already holds up his head so good and he loves lookin' around!  especially out the window or at the light and he also loves looking at it all upside down!

He's cute:) We like him!:)

Home!

After 2 days, about 20 million tests, and everyone coming in and poking and prodding our baby we finally got to leave! David loved the car, it put him right to sleep! He looks so very tiny in his car seat:).

When we got to our little apartment my friend Alyssa had it all decorated and my mom had loaded our fridge and cupboards:). And she made us breakfast burritos!

Stork en Route

I thought this day would never come! And now it has come and gone and I better write my little story before I forget any of the sweet details. I shall start with Saturday the 16th. I asked around for any and every idea to induce labor. I was about ready to try it all! I got: go on a walk, drink castor oil, eat something spicy... Easy enough so Sunday came and Devin and I went out for a walk and we decided we would go find castor oil and such tomorrow. We walked a mile down the canals here in AZ and hoped for the best.

Devin went to work Sunday night and I was up late.. It was a habit I was starting not thinking it would effect my VERY near future:). I went to sleep finally around 12:30 am. Only to wake up around 6:00 am And start having some annoying sudden painful cramps. Then I realized oh my goodness is this it? Is this what I have been waiting for? The cramps came and went and I timed the distance between them and by 7:00 am when Devin was driving home they were ranging from 3-6 minutes apart and lasting 35-65 seconds.

I felt it was all over the place a feared that this was just false labor so I stopped getting my hopes up and just took a shower. They were still coming by the time Devin was home so I told him he better get some sleep because we could be in for a long day if this was for real! I called my midwife and she said to wait till they were 5 minutes apart consistently for an hour. So I popped in pirates of the Caribbean and took a seat. I made sure to keep walking around and drinking water though, even if it was false labor perhaps I could provoke it! So 11:30 am rolled around and it was still the same deal 3-6 minutes apart.. So I called my midwife and she said head on over to the hospital and just get checked. Worst case scenario you get sent home but at least you know what's going on. So off we went! Devin got our bags and the car seat and he even gave me a quick blessing before we left, it was wonderful:). So we got to Mercy Gilbert Medical Center at 12:45 pm.
My midwife Laura (she was absolutely amazing! I couldn't have had a better midwife!) was there to meet us in triage. I got all hooked up and she checked me out... I was dilated to 3 cm! Woo hoo! But... She said we'll wait 20 minutes and check again and if there's no progress they'll just have us go home and wait it out.. I was determined! Me and Devin walked up and down the halls and when my 20 minutes were up I was still having contractions:). And I was all the way up to 4 cm dilated! So they got me a room and we were in for the long haul:). We got to our room and I took another shower I just definitely could handle the contractions best when I was standing. My Labor & Delivery nurse Tiffany was really sweet I liked her, except when she had to check the baby's heart beat I mean I know it's important, but they had to have me hold semi still while they listened one minute before, during, and one minute after a contraction... It was NOT something I looked forward to... Especially as things started getting worse.. Good thing my Devin was there by my side the whole time:). Around 4:00 pm she wanted to check my progress again. I was nervous! I didn't want to know that I still had so far to go... I braced myself and she said I was at 8 cm! I already started or passed the transition phase and she said this baby should be here within the hour. I was so happy:) Bring it on I thought, this was so much easier than I thought it would be. They were getting the little pull out crib and the scale and the heating lamps ready and I was just making stuff happen! Then an hour came and went... And another... So she checked me again. A 9 1/2 cm!! We kept going for another hour... And another.. It was 8:00 pm and I was so very done, I was sobbing and begging them to make it stop. My water broke around this time and Devin said he almost got hit from 2 feet away! The contractions were back to back to back and I was so tired.. Finally after this far my midwife checked me again and found he was 'sunny side up' and my cervix just couldn't dilate that last 1/4 cm... so they offered the epidural for the 90th time I said Yes! Get the epidural in here! So they started my fluids, which was just another road block, they couldn't find a good vein because I was so dehydrated! Finally got that going, got some blood drawn to count my platelets, and got all prepped for the anesthesiologist. I had to sit on the edge of my bed and lean over with my arms above my head and relax my shoulders ha! Relax... Wasn't that why I was getting an epidural?? I was not a pleasant person and I apologize but they could have been a little more understanding? Finally... We did it! Once that epidural was in it was instant. Serious, they said 15 minutes and I was bracing myself for the 15 death grip contractions I would face before relief, but it came instantly :) I was already falling asleep and they were repositioning me here and there to get that baby to turn so we could get him in the right spot. It was now 8:30 pm and I called my sister in law Janel and told her my woeful story but I was smiling! My nurse came back to check me around 9:30 and said there he is! Lets get you ready to push! Best words I have ever heard:). Devin got all into it and was right in there gloved up with the nurse and midwife. :). We got that baby out in 30 minutes at 10:05 pm! I could feel his shoulders pop out and then there he was on my chest crying up a storm and he had one little eye open looking around:).
**please ignore the double chin... It was a long day...
He was covered! In vernix. That white stuff babies get to keep themselves from pickling in the amniotic fluid. And he had hair! So much hair. it was black too!

He got a 8/9 on his APGAR test:). That's my boy! And Devin cut his cord and they took him over to be weighed and cleaned while I got the placenta out which was cake! By cake I mean easy, placentas are weird lookin... We'll leave it at that:). Then it was off to the postpartum room, We got all cleaned and ready to roll out lickety split!

Our little man weighed 7 pounds 9 ounces and was 19.25 inches long. and he was a screamer:). He's the most precious and wonderful little human I have ever met:)
